Written by: Amare Swierc

Tracy Futhey, Vice President for Information Technology, (member of AiiCE’s Backbone) was recently featured in the Duke University “Our Stories: Trailblazers” highlight for the Duke centennial for her instrumental role in developing and managing the Office of Information Technology (OIT). Futhey started as Duke’s chief information officer in 2002 and has overseen the department through the development of smartphones, YouTube, Facebook, and AI. Futhey has led national and regional efforts such as the introduction of the nation’s first higher education-owned and operated national research and education optical network, and the creation of an alliance of regional municipalities and universities that led to the buildout of residential gigabit fiber networks in Durham and the Research Triangle. She serves on various industry advisory councils for Fortune 100 technology companies, collaborated with Apple to launch iTunesU and the digital DukeCard, and more. At Duke, Futhey has helped develop the Innovation Co-Lab, DTech Scholars, and Code+. Congratulations!
