Leiny Garcia, Ph.D.

Dr. Leiny Garcia is an AiiCE Postdoctoral researcher at Duke University. Dr. Garcia holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from Tufts University, where she developed an interest in engineering education for K-12 settings. After engaging with the maker movement in her hometown of Los Angeles, she pursued a master's degree at Stanford University. She completed her Ph.D. at UC Irvine, focusing on the inclusion of marginalized youth in STEM and Computer Science Education. Her research interests include Design-based Implementation Research, coding motivation and identities, and culturally sustaining practices.
