Meka Egwuekwe's profile

Meka Egwuekwe is the son of a Nigerian father and an American mother, and he grew up in South Memphis, Tennessee. He taught himself computer programming and has dedicated himself to creating pathways to careers in computer science education for people of color. In 2015, he helped found CodeCrew, an organization that mentors youth and offers hands-on computer science education programs.

Meka attended East High School in Memphis, Tennessee, and Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, before graduating a year early from Morehouse College with a B.S. in Computer Science. He went on to earn a master’s degree in computer science from Duke University. Currently, Meka lives in Memphis with his wife and two daughters. He serves on the Boards of the National Civil Rights Museum, the Soulsville (Stax) Foundation, the Tennessee Digital Media Council, the Greater Memphis IT Council, Workforce Midsouth, the Abbot Academy Fund, Castalia Baptist Church, and LeBonheur Children’s Hospital’s National Leadership Council.
