Fereidooni receives Gates Cambridge scholarship

Written by: Brady Kim

Sonia Fereidooni, a graduate of the University of Washington and member of the AiiCE student advisory board, has been awarded the prestigious Gates Cambridge Scholarship. At 22, she stands out among 26 students selected nationwide for this honor, which recognizes her outstanding achievements and potential. Fereidooni pursued studies in computer and data science as well as sociology during her undergraduate years and continued her academic journey with a master's degree in computer science and engineering. As a graduate student, Fereidooni earned recognition as a Mary Gates Research Scholar and received the Allen AI Outstanding Engineer Scholarship for Women & Underrepresented Minorities. Sonia looks to expand her interests through doctoral work in Digital Humanities at the University of Cambridge and explore the legislative aspects of AI governance, particularly in protecting intersectional identities from regions like the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia.

Congratulations to Sonia on this prestigious award.
